Use Case: facing the weather with MasterLine 8 terrace doors

Easy access, protection against the toughest weather conditions, and a clean look: those were the specific requirements of architects Max Dudler and Jaspers & Eyers when designing the terraces of Scheldehof 1 & 2. Reynaers Aluminium took on the challenge and provided the perfect joinery solution with MasterLine 8.

Scheldehof 1 & 2 are two residential buildings, one mid-rise and one high-rise, currently under construction at the recently developed Nieuw Zuid (“New South”) district in Antwerp, Belgium. Planted right on the banks of the Scheldt, these towers are subjected to both moisture and rough gusts of wind flowing in over the river, as well as noise pollution coming from the nearby city centre. However, instead of staying inside all year long, future residents will want to enjoy the occasional beautiful weather on their spacious terraces. How do you solve this issue?

High-performance aluminium joinery

The architects have put their trust in triple-glazed MasterLine 8 terrace doors by Reynaers Aluminium. Firstly, the systems excellent insulating properties help the 80-metre-tall building withstand even the toughest weather conditions. Yet more importantly, the user-friendly terrace doors grant easy access to your sunny patio or terrace area whenever you like. But when the weather turns bad, you and your visitors should be able to return safely back inside, right?

That is why terrace doors feature handles and door locks on both sides, a detail which differentiates them from the similarly looking balcony door solutions – which have handles and optional locks on the inside only. Another distinguishing factor is that terrace doors can either open inwards or outwards. Balcony doors – in high-rise buildings often paired with a (glass) balustrade – only turn or tilt inwards, as their main function is to provide ventilation.
